3 Steps to Improving Organizational Health

This is the Uncommon Leadership Framework – a remarkably effective approach to achieving alignment, accountability, and engagement in small to large organizations and teams.

The Uncommon Leadership Framework

Two Components

There are two components: organizational alignment and role accountability. When these components are clear – and clearly communicated – the organization experiences greater engagement, productivity and ultimate success.

Component 1: Organizational Alignment

Component 1 is comprised of 6 realms of alignment.

  • Purpose – Why are you here?
  • Vision – What are you building?
  • Strategy – How will you get there?
  • Performance – Who will do what?
  • Productivity – Where and how will you focus?
  • Motivation – What drives you?

Component 2: Role Accountability

Component 2 is comprised of 3 roles of accountability. Individuals can have one, two or all of these roles.

  • Leadership – Steward of purpose, vision, strategy, execution
  • Management – Steward of alignment, communication, performance, development, compliance
  • Individual contributor – Steward of personal contribution

3 Steps to Improving Organizational Health

  1. Elevate leadership’s responsibility to define why the organization exists (purpose), what is being built (vision) and how success toward achieving the purpose and vision will be measured (strategy).
  2. Equip and train managers with practical tools to make their work easier and more impactful (performance).
  3. Equip and train individuals to maintain personal accountability for performance and engagement (personal productivity and motivation).

Why is it called Uncommon?

the Uncommon Leadership Framework is so called 1) Because it works. This is a remarkably effective and proven approach and, in the experience of many many leaders, that is uncommon. 2) Because it connects people (real, whole, feeling, thinking humans) to purpose (the actual, genuine reason an organization exits) and, in my 25 years of executive experience, I have found that to be uncommon.
